MOGADISHU, Somalia — Mohamed Ahmed Diriye Yabooh, the Deputy Mayor for Security and Politics of the Benadir region, declared on Thursday that the security situation in Mogadishu is stable and reliable.

Speaking to reporters in Mogadishu on Thursday, Yabooh highlighted that the current security climate in the Somali capital is significantly improved compared to previous years.

Yabooh noted, however, that some individuals are adversely affecting the city’s security, including those launching “inappropriate attacks” against national leaders.

He urged for their removal to prevent further destabilization, stating, “There is no room for anyone to undermine the security of Mogadishu. The city has made significant progress, and it is essential to maintain this peace and stability.”

He also called on Somalia’s judiciary to prosecute politicians he accused of exacerbating security issues in the capital. Yabooh encouraged all security forces to persist in their efforts to guarantee complete safety in the city.

Over recent years, Mogadishu has experienced a marked decline in violence, with fewer bombings, killings, and activities by armed groups.

Theft has also decreased, contributing to a perception of increased safety among residents, who are keen to support further development and peace in the city.
