Mortar attack near Somali presidential palace injures two

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Several mortar shells hit residential neighborhoods near the Somali presidential palace in Mogadishu on Saturday morning, leaving at least two people injured.

 

The mortar attack took place in key areas in the Warta-Nabada district close to the heavily fortified presidential compound, with initial reports suggesting the victims were civilians.

The Somali Security forces have arrived at the site and launched an investigation, though no group has yet claimed responsibility for the assault.

The strike comes as security in Mogadishu has been gradually improving in recent months, despite ongoing political instability and security concerns.

The Somali government has yet to release an official statement, but an investigation into the attack which sent a wave of show through the residents outside the Villa Somalia.
