MOGADISHU, Somalia — The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), in coordination with international partners, has intensified its operations against Al-Shabaab militants, carrying out a series of targeted raids in central Somalia.
In a recent operation in the Ceel-dhiiqo Weyne area, situated between Ceel-lahelay and Ceel-garas in Galguduud region, NISA forces killed 12 Al-Shabaab members, including key commanders.
Thirteen others were wounded during the assault on a militant training camp reportedly housing over 400 fighters.
In an official statement, NISA said the operation ended in a significant victory and that security forces continue to pursue several militants who fled towards Ceelbuur district.
Earlier operations in the Hiiraan region also resulted in the killing of a senior Al-Shabaab commander and his bodyguards, NISA confirmed.
These intensified military efforts come as Somali security agencies, backed by international intelligence partners, seek to dismantle the insurgent group’s networks and curb its influence across the country.
