JEDDAH (SMN) – The President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh has delivered a keynote speech at the one-day 32rd Arab League Summit in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Friday.
The president at first welcomed the peace efforts in Sudan and the return of Syria to the Arab league fold after 12 years of haitus due to the conflict.
Bashar Al Assad attended the meeting, representing his war-torn country. He termed the forum historic and came at a time Middle East faces unprecedented crisis.
Hassan Sheikh briefed the leaders at Jeddah gathering on the current situation in Somalia, mainly the SNA-led fight against Al-Shabaab which the government regained control of 80 towns in 6 months.
He urged the Arab leaders to back his country in succeeding stand again with its own feet after three decades of bloody conflict.
In addition, the president said his government is waging multi-direction war in one hand and the other the rebuilding of the Somali National Army (SNA) and debt relief process, which is the gateway to the economic revival.
Finally, Somalia president called for unity among Arab states, support for Sudan as the war causing death and destruction. He praised Saudi Arab for mediating in the conflict.
