MOGADISHU, Somalia – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud honored the top competitors of the Holy Quran Competition with an Iftar dinner at a special ceremony held at the Presidency.
The Organization of Somali Scholars, members of the Competition Committee, and Minister of Religion and Endowments Mukhtar Abu Mansoor celebrated the occasion.
The President presented prizes to the top seven competitors from the competition’s second year, emphasizing how the occasion reflected Somalia’s strong Islamic culture and the country’s dedication to morality and religious instruction.
“The dedication to memorizing the Holy Quran is a testament to our people’s deep connection to Islam,” President Mohamud said, praising the young participants’ efforts as well as those of their parents and teachers.
The occasion also acted as a sobering reminder of the price paid by educators, students, and religious organizations for standing up to extremism. Reiterating the country’s resistance against such attacks, President Mohamud denounced the violence that has targeted students, mosques, and Koranic schools.
The following people were acknowledged as the Holy Quran competition champions, having demonstrated remarkable memory and comprehension of the Quran:
First place: Majidu Rahman Mohamed Abdullahi ($20,000).
2. $15,000 goes to Yusuf Hassan Osman.
3. Ten Thousand for Hussein Hassan Nur
Fourth: Sadiq Mohamed Ali ($7,000).
5. $5,000 goes to Fadomo Jamal Hashi.
6. $3,00 goes to Mohamed Haroun Mohamed
7. $2,000 goes to Ikraan Abdikarim Hassan
The awards presentation by President Mohamud brought the ceremony to a close, symbolizing a momentous occasion of festivity and solidarity for the Somali people.
