Calmiskaad, Puntland – Puntland’s Daraawiishta forces, backed by Somali allies, have launched intensive operations over the past hours in the mountainous region of Bari, targeting ISIS militants who have long been operating covertly in the area.
The operations were meticulously planned, leading Puntland troops to seize key ISIS bases in the mountain terrain after heavy clashes. These strongholds are now being completely cleared of militants.
During the offensive, Puntland forces obtained crucial intelligence shedding light on the group’s battle organization, internal and external communication methods, and locations used to store weapons, supplies, and equipment.
Captured intelligence revealed the presence of foreign fighters among ISIS ranks, enabling security officials to better understand and target the group’s tactics. Commanders stated that the new information significantly enhances Puntland’s capacity to strike remaining ISIS elements.
Reports indicate several ISIS fighters were killed during the operation, while others fled the area. Security forces also recovered large quantities of weapons and ammunition previously used in regional attacks.
Puntland security officials confirmed that such operations will continue until ISIS is completely eradicated from Bari’s mountainous areas, with the overarching goal of securing Puntland and Somalia at large.
