BOSSASO [SMN] – Heavy clashes were reported to have erupted on the outskirts of the Af-Urur area in the Bari region between Puntland and Al-Shabaab militants.
Credible sources said Puntland Defense Forces launched a planned operation against al-Shabaab members who were gathering in the mountains to attack their base camp.
Local residents said they could hear heavy gunfire in the mountains, although they couldn’t confirm the casualties on both warring sides.
Meanwhile, Puntland military officials announced that they have carried out planned operations in the mountains of Af-Urur as well as on the road to Sugurre.
The situation is still tense, and there are rival movements in and around Af-Urur.
