QORYOLEY, Somalia – Qoryooley, a district in the Lower Shabelle region, is currently facing one of its most severe security crises. The district is on the verge of becoming ungovernable, as residents are increasingly unable to rely on security forces to maintain order, and fear is spreading throughout the community.
The cost of living has skyrocketed, making life even more difficult for the local population. Reports of killings, robberies, and widespread looting have become a daily occurrence, with citizens enduring constant threats. Bombings have become a frequent event, and there are times when the district is completely cut off due to actions by the al-Shabaab militant group.
Local officials who have worked in Qoryooley for years have lost their lives in targeted bombings, whether they occurred in the town’s streets or inside the offices where they served the public.
There have been large-scale protests in the district, with residents voicing their frustration over the severe security risks they face daily. Just yesterday, another bombing rocked the district, causing fatalities and injuries.
The explosion killed several civilians, including soldiers from the Somali National Army, and caused significant property damage. Many businesses and neighborhoods in Qoryooley were destroyed in the blast.
Sayid Ali Mowliid, a resident, expressed concern, stating that the security situation in Qoryooley has completely spiraled out of control. The community is living in constant fear, with little hope for improvement as the security situation deteriorates further.
With the ongoing violence and lack of effective intervention, the residents of Qoryooley continue to call on the government and security agencies to urgently address the growing crisis and restore peace to their town.
