NAIROBI – President William Ruto has nominated the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji as the new Director General of the National Intelligence Service.
“Consequently, it is notified that Excellency the President has, In accordance with Section 7 (1) of the National Intelligence Service Act, nominated Noordin Hajl, CBS, for appointment as the Director-General of the National Intelligence Service,” Ruto said.
Haji returns to the National Intelligence Service after 6 years of serving as the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Before being the DPP, he served as Deputy Director of the Counter Organised Crime Unit within the National Intelligence Service.
He holds a Bachelor of Law and Masters degree from the University of Wales, Cardiff.
Additionally, he holds a second Masters Degree in National Security Policy with Merit (MNSPO) from the Australian National University.
Haji was admitted to the Bar in 1999 and thereafter joined the Public Service in January 2000, working at the Attorney General’s Office
Ruto has transmitted the nominee’s name to the National Assembly for consideration by Parliament, in fulfillment of the requirements set out under the Constitution and the National.
Haji’s nomination comes ahead of the retirement of Major-General (Rtd) Philip Wachira Kameru, the outgoing Director-General.
General Kameru was appointed in September 2014 after an illustrious military career
He had risen through the ranks to the position of Director of Military Intelligence in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
In that position, he provided outstanding leadership that earned him international accolades.
” Under Major General Kimeru’s watch, Kenya’s premier civilian intelligence agency has made monumental strides in the fight against terrorism, transnational crimes and other major threats to our national and regional security,” Ruto said.
