Mahaday, November 1, 2025 — Local community forces known as Macawiisley carried out a planned operation early Saturday in the Mahaday district, killing a senior Al-Shabaab commander responsible for the Ciid Ciidka Jeembilow area in the Middle Shabelle region, security sources said.

According to residents, the fighters targeted a hideout used by Al-Shabaab militants, where Muxudiin Hassan, identified as the group’s local commander, was killed along with three of his bodyguards.

During the operation, the community defense forces—locally known as Macwiisley —reportedly seized two AK-47 rifles and other military supplies from the slain militants.

The commander of the Mahaday community forces said the operation was part of an ongoing campaign to eliminate remaining Al-Shabaab elements hiding in forested areas of the region.

He vowed that operations would continue “until the entire Middle Shabelle is cleared of the extremists.”

Residents said the area is now calm, though security personnel are conducting further search and clearance operations to verify the presence of any remaining insurgents.
