MOGADISHU [SMN] – Somali forces have taken control of areas under the control of Garbaharey town which has been under Al-Shabaab control for the past few years.
The Somali National Army (SNA) has reportedly taken control of Barwaqo village and other areas under the district.
Officials leading the operation against al-Shabaab have announced they will continue their operations there until they liberate the villages still under the militants’ control.
Garbaharey has been the scene of a series of security crackdowns in the past, as parliamentary elections are expected to be held in Garbaharey city.
