MOGADISHU – The chairman of Somalia’s Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, on Monday received the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator and Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Somalia, George Conway, at the agency’s headquarters in Mogadishu.
Talks focused on accelerating procedures for implementing the Food Security Crisis Prevention and Preparedness Plan (FSCPP), with both sides reviewing ways to strengthen measures aimed at preventing emergencies linked to food shortages and recurring drought conditions across the country.
Officials also discussed the importance of improving coordination between the Somali government and international humanitarian partners working to address food insecurity and climate-related challenges. The Director of Food Security at the Office of the Prime Minister attended the meeting.
The two sides agreed to establish a joint committee to oversee coordination and monitor the implementation of the plan, in a bid to ensure effective delivery of food security programmes.
The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts by the federal government and the United Nations to enhance cooperation in responding to humanitarian crises and to strengthen community resilience against drought and other disasters.
