MOGADISHU, Somalia  – The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) on Saturday dispatched a significant food aid package from Mogadishu, funded by the Chinese government, to assist communities in the SSC Khaatumo State, located in northern Somalia.
The shipment, comprising 500 tons of food, set sail from Mogadishu Port destined for Bosaso. Once it arrives, the food aid will be distributed to communities within the SSC Khaatumo Administration, focusing on the most vulnerable populations, SoDMA said.
Commissioner Mahmoud Ma’allin Abdulle of SoDMA reiterated the agency’s commitment to the welfare of Somalis, stating, “We stand ready to assist the Somali community in any way we can.” He also underscored the strategic timing of the aid, aimed at countering the effects of the looming La Nina drought.

“We are ready to strengthen efforts to prevent the La Nina drought that is feared to hit our country,” Abdulle remarked, thanking the Chinese government for its substantial support.

Abdulle has highlighted the critical importance of international aid in enhancing SoDMA’s capacity to respond to national crises.
