MUQDISHO [SMN] – The Head of Somalia’s Disaster Management Authority (SoDMA), Mohamud Moallin Abdulle, currently on an official visit to Russia, held a significant meeting with Dr. Kurynin Roman Viktorovich, Deputy Minister of the Russian Ministry for Civil Defence, Emergency Situations, and Disaster Management.
The meeting focused on the humanitarian situation in Somalia and the urgent need for a swift response to mitigate the risks posed by ongoing disasters, particularly the severe droughts affecting the country.
Both sides discussed strengthening cooperation between SoDMA and the Russian government, emphasizing the importance of capacity building and training for disaster management, as well as providing necessary equipment.
They also agreed on the importance of continuous support through technical assistance to improve Somalia’s preparedness and response to future crises.
Dr. Viktorovich pledged to relay the urgency of providing immediate assistance to Somalia to the Russian leadership, aiming to prevent the drought’s impact from reaching an unmanageable level.
In turn, Mohamed Moalim, the chairman of SoDMA has thanked Russia for its long-standing support and highlighted the vital diplomatic ties between Mogadishu and Moscow.
