Adan, received officials from the Prime Minister’s office led by Deputy Permanent Secretary Abdirizak Ali and the leader of the Social pillar of the National Transformation Plan.

The meeting focused on linking disaster risk planning with the broader social pillar of the National Transformation Plan.

Commissioner Moallim emphasized the importance of integrating disaster risk planning with the social pillar to ensure a comprehensive approach to disaster management. He highlighted the need for coordination and collaboration between the National Disaster Management Agency and the Prime Minister’s office to address the social and economic impacts of disasters.

Deputy Permanent Secretary Abdirizak Ali acknowledged the importance of disaster risk planning and its alignment with the National Transformation Plan. He emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing the root causes of disasters and building resilience in communities.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to establish a working group to develop a framework for linking disaster risk planning with the social pillar of the National Transformation Plan. The working group will include representatives from the National Disaster Management Agency, the Prime Minister’s office, and relevant stakeholders.

The National Disaster Management Agency has been actively engaging with various stakeholders to strengthen disaster management efforts in the country. In recent months, the agency has held meetings with representatives from the Dan-Kulmis Fishing Cooperative Committee to discuss precautions needed to be taken by fishing boats as Cyclone Laly heads towards the region.

The agency has also been working closely with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to predict, respond, and recover from climate-induced disasters. They have agreed to further their cooperation to enhance resilience and preparedness in the face of increasingly frequent and severe disasters.

As the country continues to face a range of disaster risks, the National Disaster Management Agency remains committed to working with all stakeholders to build a more resilient nation.
