ALGIERS – Somalia’s Ambassador to Algeria, Yusuf Ahmed Hassan (Yusuf Jeego), held a high-level meeting on Wednesday with the President of the Algerian Senate, Mr. Aziz Nasri, as part of ongoing efforts to deepen bilateral relations between the two countries.

The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Algerian upper house of parliament and focused on strengthening long-standing diplomatic, political, and parliamentary cooperation between Somalia and Algeria.

According to a statement issued after the meeting, both sides agreed to establish a joint parliamentary friendship committee aimed at promoting mutual exchange of experience and capacity building between the Somali and Algerian legislative bodies.

Ambassador Hassan praised Algeria’s historic support for Somalia and highlighted the growing momentum in diplomatic and sectoral cooperation.

“This meeting marks an important step in enhancing ties between our two nations,” he said.

The two countries have in recent years expanded cooperation across several fields, including education, security, trade, and diplomacy — a relationship both governments described as “strong and progressing positively.”

Senate President Nasri reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s development and stability, and emphasized the importance of fostering deeper collaboration between the peoples and institutions of the two nations.
