MOGADISHU, Somalia — The commander of Somalia’s 143rd Unit of the 14 October Brigade, Colonel Ali Mahdi Abdi Beerdiide, received senior officers from the Somali National Army’s General Operations Command in the town of Awdheegle, officials said.
The visiting officers travelled to Awdheegle to assess the overall security situation, as security in the district is fully controlled by Somali government forces and African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) troops, according to military sources.
During their visit, the officers toured sites recently cleared of Al-Shabaab fighters who had been hiding in the area in recent days. Officials said the town is showing signs of recovery, citing what they described as tangible improvements in security and reconstruction following the latest operations.
