MOGADISHU, Somalia – The epic weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Government of the Federal Republic of Somalia focused on security and deal with Ethiopia.

The agreement enforced by the cabinet touches on cooperation in foreign affairs, health, education, information, tourism, and other issues of mutual interest, according to the OPM.

The Prime Minister of Somalia HE Hamsa Abdi Barre chaired today’s meeting on the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding [MoU] between the two countries.

The cabinet was briefed on the country’s security and war on Al-Shabaab by the Ministers of Defense and Security as recent operations faced setbacks, including an army retreat.

The council of ministers praised the army’s successes in the war to degrade Al-Shabaab and emphasized the country’s struggle to stand again on its feet after over 30 years of conflict.

Somalia’s Prime Minister, Hamze Abdi Barre, visited Yesterday, the Adan Yabal district in the Middle Shabelle region and met with Somali government forces and local inhabitants.

The Somali government has stated that it is dedicated to concluding the fight with Al-Shabaab within months. This comes as President Hassan Sheikh is in Galmudug state.

In August 2022, Mohamud launched a “total war” against al-Shabaab. In the first phase, Somali forces concentrated on the central regions of Hirshabelle and Galmudug, supporting local clans that were rebelling against al-Shabaab.
