Somali cabinet discusses security amid war on Al-Shabaab

MOGADISHU, Somalia – The weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers chaired by Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre, discussed the Security of the country amid war on Al-Shabab.

 

In addition, the cabinet lauded the achievements made in liberating and stabilizing the country following the recapture of more than 80 areas from Al-Shabaab by the military.

“The cabinet praised the gains by the Somali National Army in the fight against Al-Shabaab, with successes achieved and implemented in some regions of the country,” said OPM.

Apart from the fight against Al-Shabaab, the government is currently fighting corruption by arresting several officials, some of whom have been brought to a court in Mogadishu.

Somalia is currently in the final stage of debt relief of 5 billion US dollars and which is subject to strict conditions including financial reform and increasing domestic revenue.
