MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somalia’s national civil servants’ union strongly condemned the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Farah Nur (Nuux Dheere), after he suspended six departmental directors from the ministry.
In a statement issued following a press conference in Mogadishu, the union accused the minister of acting “outside the legal framework of public service procedures” and replacing the dismissed officials with individuals allegedly chosen on clan-based affiliations.
“The minister’s actions violate civil service regulations and undermine confidence and fairness within government institutions,” a union spokesperson told reporters.
The group described the move as “illegal and discriminatory,” warning that such decisions could damage morale among public employees and erode trust in state institutions.
The union also called on Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre to intervene immediately to ensure the protection of civil servants’ rights and uphold transparency in government employment practices.
As of Saturday, Minister Nuux Dheere had not publicly commented on the allegations or explained the reasons for the dismissal of the six directors.
