Mogadishu, Somalia — Commissioner Mahamuud Moallim of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) met with Freddie Carver, the Regional Director of the Regional Durable Solutions Secretariat for the Horn of Africa (ReDSS HoA), at his office on Thursday.

The meeting focused on strategies to enhance durable solutions for displacement-affected communities across the region.

During the discussion, both officials highlighted the importance of coordination between regional and international efforts to address the ongoing challenges faced by displaced populations. They explored potential collaborations to improve aid distribution, policy development, and capacity building within local communities.

Commissioner Moallim emphasized the need for sustainable approaches that not only provide immediate relief but also foster long-term resilience among Somalia’s vulnerable populations. “Our aim is to move beyond emergency responses and towards creating environments where displaced individuals can rebuild their lives,” he stated.

Freddie Carver of ReDSS HoA expressed optimism about the partnership, noting, “By working together, we can leverage the expertise and resources of ReDSS to support Somalia’s efforts in managing displacement more effectively.”

The meeting comes at a critical time as Somalia continues to grapple with the effects of conflict, climate change, and economic instability, all contributing to one of the world’s most significant displacement crises.

The discussions today are part of broader efforts to streamline humanitarian aid and develop more effective, long-lasting solutions for those affected by displacement in the Horn of Africa.
