MOGADISHU – Somalia’s Minister of Defence, Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, on Saturday chaired the monthly meeting of the Stabilisation Task Force at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Mogadishu, as government forces continue to advance in their campaign against Al-Shabaab militants.
The meeting focused on boosting coordination among government institutions involved in stabilisation efforts in liberated areas and enhancing unified messaging to counter extremist propaganda.
Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Odawaa Yusuf Raage briefed attendees on recent battlefield gains and the intensified phase of the national counter-terrorism offensive, reaffirming the Somali National Army’s (SNA) commitment to continuing operations until the militant threat is fully neutralised.
Minister Fiqi urged all relevant agencies to step up cooperation and harmonise strategic communications to amplify military achievements and debunk disinformation spread by extremist groups.
“The unity of message is critical as we work to consolidate the gains made on the battlefield and win the trust of communities emerging from terrorist control,” Fiqi said.
The Somali government has ramped up military operations in recent months, with support from local militias and international partners, in a bid to regain control of vast rural territories long held by Al-Shabaab.
