MOGADISHU — Somalia’s Defence Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi hosted the Qatari ambassador to Somalia at a ceremonial iftar dinner, reaffirming Mogadishu’s support for Doha following recent attacks inside the Gulf state, officials said.

During the meeting, Fiqi expressed the “full solidarity and support” of the Somali government and people with the leadership and citizens of Qatar in the wake of what he described as unlawful assaults targeting the country.

The minister also underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation and friendly ties between the two nations, stressing that Somalia backs Qatar’s efforts to safeguard the security of its population and protect its sovereignty.

Officials said the talks reflected growing diplomatic engagement between the two allies, with both sides highlighting the value of continued collaboration on regional security and development.
