Doha — Somalia’s Defence Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi met with officers of the Somali National Army who have recently graduated from the Ahmed bin Mohammed Military College in Qatar, as Mogadishu steps up efforts to strengthen its security forces.

During the meeting, Fiqi congratulated the officers on completing their military training, praising their discipline, resilience and professionalism. He urged them to apply the skills and experience gained during their studies to the defence of the country, the development of the armed forces and service to the Somali people.

The minister stressed the importance of internationally trained officers, saying they would form the backbone of efforts to rebuild and modernise Somalia’s national army.

Somali National Army commander Major General Odowaa Yusuf Rage, who accompanied the minister, also commended the graduates for their achievements and dedication.

The visit comes as the federal government prepares to launch intensified military operations against the Al-Shabaab militant group, following a recent surge in attacks across several regions of the country. Officials say the planned operations are expected to be wide-ranging, aimed at bolstering security and restoring stability nationwide.
