MOGADISHU [SMN] – Somali Minister of Defense Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur once again warned the troops against mixing or being used in politics, threatening any soldier found in such a case to be brought to justice.
The minister instructed all armed forces to adhere to their national security responsibilities.
“In accordance with the laws of the land, I once again urge the armed forces to remain in their national duty and refrain from meddling or being used in politics. “Whoever is found guilty will be dealt with in accordance with the laws of the land,” Minister Abdulkadir said in a statement.
The statement comes as the country is currently embroiled in a tense standoff between the president and the prime minister over election issues.
