CAIRO, Egypt — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in Cairo on Sunday for talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing regional security, development and stability, the two sides said.
The leaders discussed ways to deepen the longstanding ties between Somalia and Egypt, including cooperation on security, trade and infrastructure development, as part of broader efforts to enhance strategic coordination in the Horn of Africa and the Middle East.
Following their meeting, the two presidents held a joint press conference, stressing the importance of respecting Somalia’s sovereignty, unity and stability.
Mohamud criticised what he described as illegal actions that threaten regional peace, urging respect for international law and the sovereignty of states.
For his part, Sisi reiterated Egypt’s support for Somalia’s independence, territorial integrity and non-interference in its internal affairs, underscoring Somalia’s strategic importance to regional stability and development.
The talks also highlighted the need to expand cooperation in trade, investment and humanitarian affairs, with both sides emphasising the goal of achieving sustainable development across the Horn of Africa.
