MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somali National Army and allied militia forces have launched coordinated operations in the Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle regions targeting Al-Shabaab militants, military sources confirmed on Saturday.
The security offensive focuses on areas between Ceel Hareeri in Hiiraan and Aadan Yabaal in Middle Shabelle, with particular attention on the Mabaax area, where militant activity remains a concern.
Government forces recently regained control of small areas near Aadan Yabaal district and are working to consolidate their hold, aiming to restore state authority in the area.
Simultaneously, operations continue in Middle Shabelle and Lower Shabelle regions as part of broader efforts to weaken Al-Shabaab’s presence. The government has reclaimed key localities, including Sabiid and Caanoole, which were long-held by the militant group.
“These coordinated efforts demonstrate the commitment of Somali forces to dismantle Al-Shabaab’s networks and improve security across the country,” a military official said on condition of anonymity.
Al-Shabaab is an Al-Qaeda-linked group designated terrorist organization by several countries, continues to launch attacks despite ongoing military campaigns to neutralize the militants.
