MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somali National Army (SNA) troops, in coordination with the US Africa Command (AFRICOM), successfully carried out a series of operations and airstrikes against Al-Shabaab militants in central Somalia, specifically targeting the outskirts of Bulo Burte in the Hiiraan region of Hirshabelle State.

The military actions were aimed at thwarting an Al-Shabaab attempt to launch a surprise attack on government forces in the region. The operations were part of ongoing efforts by the Somali government, backed by local communities and international partners, to combat the insurgent group.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Information, the Somali government emphasized its commitment to intensifying the fight against both Al-Shabaab and ISIS, which have carried out numerous attacks across the country.

The statement further noted the Somali government’s strategic partnership with the United States and other international allies in eradicating these terror groups.

The airstrikes and ground operations came just days after Al-Shabaab launched assaults on government military bases in the Middle Shabelle region, underscoring the ongoing conflict between Somali forces and the extremist group.

The operations are part of a broader military strategy to regain control of areas still held by Al-Shabaab in the central and southern parts of the country.
