MOGADISHU, Somalia – Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, took part in the preparatory meeting of foreign ministers for the fifteenth session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The meeting was held in the Gambian capital, Banjul, on May 2 – 3, 2024, under the theme “Promoting unity and solidarity through dialogue for sustainable development.”
Ambassador Ahmed Moalim Fiqi led the Somali delegation at this important gathering, where discussions focused on the report and final declaration for approval during the 15th session of the Islamic Summit Conference. The conference will be attended by leaders and heads of government from member countries of the organization.
The OIC is the second-largest intergovernmental organization after the United Nations, with a membership of 57 states spread over four continents. It aims to safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony among various people of the world.
The theme of this year’s summit, “Promoting unity and solidarity through dialogue for sustainable development,” reflects the organization’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by its member states and fostering cooperation and collaboration in achieving sustainable development goals.
During the preparatory meeting, the foreign ministers of the member states discussed various topics related to the theme, including the promotion of dialogue and peaceful resolution of conflicts, the strengthening of economic and trade cooperation, and the advancement of social and cultural development.
The final declaration to be approved at the summit will serve as a roadmap for the OIC in addressing these issues and advancing the interests of its member states. It is expected to reaffirm the organization’s commitment to promoting unity, solidarity, and cooperation among its members and to address the challenges faced by the Muslim world.
The 15th session of the Islamic Summit Conference is a significant event for the OIC, as it brings together leaders and representatives from its member states to discuss and address common challenges and to chart a course for the future.
