Somali Government Forms Committee for National Funeral of Former Speaker

MOGADISHU, Somalia – In a somber and respectful gesture, the Federal Government of Somalia, under the leadership of Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, has established a committee to oversee the national funeral of the late Prof. Mohamed Osman Jawari. Prof. Jawari, who served as the Speaker of Somalia, passed away in Mogadishu on Friday at 79, marking the end of a distinguished career dedicated to public service.

 

The committee, led by Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Mr. Mohamed Abdi Hayir Maareye, brings together a diverse group of officials from various government departments and security agencies. The members include Minister of Internal Security, Mr. Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag; Minister of Animal Husbandry, Mr. Hassan Hussein Mohamed Elaay; Minister of Investment Planning and Economic Development, Mr. Mohamud Sheikh Abdirahman Beenebeene; Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Mohamed Barre Mohamud; State Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr. Hirsi Jama Gani; Deputy Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Mr. Abdirahman Sheikh Yusuf Al-Adala; Police Commissioner General Sulub Ahmed Firin; Commander of the Custodial Corps General Mahad Abdirahman Adan; Auditor of the People’s Assembly, Mr. Mohamed Abdullahi Hassan Nuh; Deputy Chairman of Security and Politics of Banadir Region, Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Diriye (Yabooh); and Chairman of the National Disaster Management Agency (SodMA), Mr. Mohamud Macallin Abdulle.

The primary responsibility of this committee is to ensure that the national funeral for Prof. Jawari is conducted with the utmost respect and dignity. The event will serve as a tribute to the former Speaker, reflecting the profound respect and admiration he garnered from the Somali people and government.

As the nation mourns the loss of a respected leader, the committee is committed to honoring Prof. Jawari’s memory and his significant contributions to Somali society.

The funeral is expected to be a solemn occasion, bringing together leaders, officials, and citizens to pay their respects and celebrate the life of a man who dedicated his career to the betterment of Somalia.
