Mogadishu, Somalia — Somali opposition leaders and senior officials from the federal government held closed-door talks late Tuesday night in Mogadishu, as political tensions continue to simmer ahead of anticipated electoral and constitutional decisions.

According to political sources, the meeting focused on defusing recent disputes, strengthening dialogue, and fostering political consensus on key national issues, including the electoral process and constitutional reforms.

The discussions, described as “constructive,” are part of a broader push to ease tensions between the government and opposition blocs, which have grown in recent weeks over concerns about political inclusion and transparency.

A follow-up meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday at Villa Somalia, where President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, and key opposition figures are expected to continue negotiations.

Sources close to the talks said both sides expressed readiness to engage in meaningful dialogue, though no official statement has been released outlining any agreements or sticking points.

The meetings come amid growing interest in Somalia’s political trajectory, with international partners calling for inclusive dialogue and stability as the country moves toward key national milestones.
