LASANOD, Somalia, Aug 12, 2025 – Somalia’s Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, Ali Hoosh, paid a courtesy visit to Garaad Jama, a prominent traditional leader from the newly-established Northeastern state, officials said Tuesday.

The meeting, held at the elder’s residence in LasAnod city, focused on exchanging views and strengthening cooperation in the ongoing efforts to establish a federal member state in the region.

Discussions also covered the crucial role of traditional leadership in promoting peace, stability and social cohesion among local communities, according to a statement from the ministry.

Minister Ali Hoosh emphasized the importance of collaboration between government institutions and traditional authorities, calling it “vital for inclusive and sustainable state-building.”

Garaad Jama welcomed the minister’s visit and expressed readiness to support the peace and reconciliation process amid the dispute over the selection process of new MPs for the Northeast state parliament.

The visit forms part of a broader initiative by the Federal Government of Somalia to engage diverse community stakeholders in shaping an inclusive and representative regional administration.
