MOGADISHU, Somalia – Hassan Moalim, the Federal Justice minister held a fruitful meeting with the UK ambassador to Somalia Mike Nithavrianakis in Mogadishu on Tuesday.
“We discussed UK support for Somalia and the role of justice and judiciary in maintaining stability, especially in post-conflict zones. Our deep gratitude to the UK gov for their significant contributions to rebuilding the Somali nation” said Moalin in a post on X.
For his part, the UK diplomat said: We had an engaging and frank discussion about the role that the judiciary can play in stabilizing security and the rule of law in liberated areas. The UK and other donors are helping.
The UK is playing a leading role in international support for improved security in Somalia and provided millions of USD in aid to the country in state-building and humanitarian.
For the UK government, Somalia is a strategically important country. It sits within a troubled region sometimes referred to as the “arc of instability”.
The UK said its aid aims to build a viable political settlement and a more stable, peaceful, and prosperous Somalia after more than three decades of conflict that uprooted millions.
In addition, the UK trains Somali military soldiers at a base in Baidoa city under Southwest State and provides higher education scholarships to students to study in Britain.
