BAGHDAD, Iraq – The Minister of Internal Security of Somalia, Mr. Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartaag), has made an official visit to the headquarters of the Border Guard Forces in Iraq.
He was accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner of the Somali Police Force, General Abdalla Abdalla, the Director-General of the Ministry of Interior, Yusuf Ali, and the Ambassador of Somalia to Iraq, Ambassador Ridwan Hirsi Mohamed.
The delegation was warmly welcomed at the headquarters, where they were received by the Commander of the Border Guard Forces, Major General Mohamed Abdel Wahab Sukkar, along with senior officers of the command.
During their visit, the delegation listened to a brief presentation on the critical duties carried out by the command, particularly its efforts to ensure the security of the borders with neighboring countries. The discussion highlighted the use of advanced technologies and modern systems employed in border security operations.
The Minister and his delegation also toured the Iraqi border monitoring and control center, where images and videos of the borders with neighboring countries are sent to the central headquarters in Baghdad. This facilitates efficient monitoring and safeguarding of the borders.
Minister Fartaag praised the professionalism of the Iraqi Border Guard Forces, particularly their efforts in combating illegal immigration and human trafficking. He described these efforts as exemplary and worthy of emulation.
This visit is part of strengthening security cooperation between Somalia and Iraq, particularly in the fight against terrorism, the exchange of experiences, and the adoption of best practices for border protection.
