BELEDWEYNE, Somalia –  The Somali National Army, with crucial backing from local residents, successfully liberated the Burweyn district and Show village in the Hiran region.

The operation, launched from nearby Jalalaqsi district, marks a major turning point in the ongoing fight against the extremist group in the region.

Nur Mohamed Absuge (Nur Dheere), Chairman of Jalalaqsi district and a former military officer leading the charge confirmed the liberation and assured that security operations are currently underway in the newly freed areas. “We will not stop until Al-Shabaab is completely cleared from Hiran,” vowed Nur Dheere, urging fellow Somalis to join the army in their efforts to free the region.

Echoing this sentiment, the Ministry of Defense released a statement celebrating the victory and reiterating the SNA’s commitment to reclaiming Somali land from Al-Shabaab’s control. With stability returning to Burweyn and Show, the SNA and local forces are establishing strong positions to ensure the safety and security of the residents.

This victory in Hiran, the region that sparked the nationwide uprising against Al-Shabaab, is a powerful symbol of the Somali people’s resilience and determination to overcome the threat of terrorism.

The Somali National Army, with local support, continues to make significant strides in its mission to reclaim its territory and defeat terrorism.
