PORT ELIZABETH, South Africa — A Somali national was shot dead in the Booysenpark area of Port Elizabeth late last night, local sources confirmed.

The victim, identified as Sharmaarke Aadan Muxumad, was reportedly killed by armed robbers while working in a shop he operated.

Witnesses said the assailants fled the scene immediately after the killing. South African police arrived at the location shortly after the incident and initiated an investigation, although no suspects have been apprehended at this stage.

Violence, including murders, injuries, and robberies, has become a concerning trend among the Somali community involved in businesses across South Africa.

Despite repeated reports of attacks, authorities have yet to introduce clear measures to address the safety of Somali nationals residing in the country.

The South African government has previously promised to tackle such issues but has yet to offer concrete plans to protect the Somali diaspora from ongoing threats.
