Cape Town — A Somali national was shot and killed on Wednesday night in the Philippi area, a suburb of Cape Town, according to local sources.

The victim, identified as Shool Mohamed Adde, was a well-known member of the Somali community in Philippi, where he had been living and working for several years.

According to witnesses, armed assailants stormed his business premises and shot him dead before fleeing the scene. The attackers, believed to be South African nationals, reportedly stole cash and other valuables before escaping.

Police arrived at the scene hours later and launched a brief investigation, though no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been identified.

Violent crimes targeting Somali nationals in South Africa have spiked in recent years, especially towards the end of the year.

Many of the victims are small business owners operating in low-income areas where they face routine threats, robberies, and killings.

Community leaders have long criticised South African authorities for failing to address the ongoing violence.

No official statement has been issued by the South African Police Service regarding the incident.
