MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somali leaders gathered in Mogadishu on Sunday to highlight the significant progress made in strengthening the quality and security of Somali passports, a crucial step in restoring their international recognition and trust.
The event, attended by Deputy Prime Minister Abdisalan Abdi Ali, government ministers, and several parliamentarians, emphasized the federal government’s ongoing commitment to ensuring the integrity and security of Somali passports. The gathering marked a key moment for the country’s efforts to improve the document’s credibility on the global stage.
Mayor of Mogadishu, Mohamed Ahmed Amir, commended the Somali Immigration and Nationality Directorate for their work in elevating the standard of Somali passports. He stressed that ensuring passport quality is a collective responsibility of all Somali citizens and encouraged a unified effort to maintain its reputation.
Mustaf Dhuxulow, Director-General of the Somali Immigration Agency, assured the audience that his department would continue to focus on enhancing the passport’s security features and overall quality to meet international standards. Dhuxulow emphasized that these efforts were critical in facilitating Somali citizens’ travel and the nation’s global presence.
