MOGADISHU, Somalia — Adan Madobe, Speaker of the Somali Parliament, hosted a farewell dinner in Mogadishu for his Djibouti counterpart Dileita Mohamed Dileita, and his delegation, marking the end of their official visit to Somalia. The event highlighted the deep-rooted ties and mutual respect between the two nations.

During the dinner, Speaker Madobe expressed gratitude towards Djibouti, noting that the Somali people are forever indebted to their neighbor for historical support and solidarity. “The Somali people owe Djibouti a great debt that can never be forgotten,” Madobe stated, reflecting on the shared history of support and cooperation between the two countries.

The gathering was attended by prominent figures including Somalia’s Second Deputy Prime Minister, Abdisalan Abdi Ali, the President of the Galmudug state, Ahmed Abdi Kariye (Qorqor), alongside several ministers, members of parliament, and other dignitaries.

Dileita Mohamed Dileita, whose visit commenced on October 29, 2024, engaged in significant diplomatic activities during his stay. He addressed the Somali People’s Assembly, where he discussed enhancing bilateral relations, and held meetings with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre, discussing various issues of mutual interest, including regional security, economic cooperation, and maritime boundaries.

The farewell dinner not only served as a celebration of the enduring friendship between Somalia and Djibouti but also underscored the strategic importance of their alliance in the volatile Horn of Africa region. Both nations face similar challenges, including maritime security, terrorist threats, and the need for economic stability, making such high-level visits crucial for coordinated responses.

The presence of high-ranking officials from both Somalia and Djibouti at the event symbolized the commitment to continued dialogue and cooperation, particularly at a time when geopolitical shifts in the region demand strong, united stances from neighboring countries.

As Dileita Mohamed Dileita and his delegation departed Mogadishu, the dinner served as a poignant reminder of the ties that bind Somalia and Djibouti, setting the stage for future collaborations in the spirit of mutual respect and solidarity.
