RIYADH, Saudi Arabia [SMN] – The Speaker of the Parliament Sheikh Adan Madobe arrived in Riyadh, the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Saturday, his office said.

Upon arrival, he was welcomed at Riyadh Airport by the Head of the Saudi Parliament, the Secretary of the Somali Embassy in Saudi Arabia, and other Somali diplomats.

“The speaker is on an official visit to Saudi Arabia and will hold talks with his country’s counterpart, Dr Abdullahi bin Mohamed bin Ibrahim Aala Sheikh,” added the statement.

Madobe and his Saudi counterpart will focus on the cooperation between the two parliaments as KSA is now keen to repair diplomatic and trade relations with Somalia.

In 2021, The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia appointed Ahmed Bin Mohamed Al-Muwallad as their new ambassador to Somalia and reopened its embassy in Mogadishu after years of hiatus.

Al-Muwallad is the second Saudi ambassador to Mogadishu since the collapse of the central government in 1991. It comes as the Gulf states’ battle for influence in Somalia intensifies.
