MOGADISHU – Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre announced on Monday the appointment of Ahmed Nor Sheikh Mohamed Loxox as State Minister for Planning and Investment, and Abdirashid Mohamed Du’ale as Deputy Minister for Education.
The reshuffle comes after the resignation of the previous incumbents, who cited tensions with the federal government.
The ministers from Jubbaland State resigned, pointing to what they described as discriminatory practices by the central government towards regional administrations including Jubbaland, Puntland, and SSC Khatumo.
Their departure was a response to a perceived hostile approach from Mogadishu.
The political rift has deepened due to ongoing disagreements on the electoral framework, leading Jubbaland and Puntland to boycott recent National Consultative Council meetings in Mogadishu.
The new appointments are viewed as attempts to navigate through the political turbulence and restore some semblance of governmental cohesion.
