MOGADISHU — Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Friday met with China’s ambassador to Somalia, Wang Yu, to discuss strengthening and accelerating bilateral cooperation between the two countries, the government said.

The talks focused on cooperation in security, the economy and trade, as well as reinforcing the long-standing ties between Mogadishu and Beijing, according to a statement from the prime minister’s office.

Barre said Somalia was seeking to deepen its diplomatic engagement to deliver practical outcomes based on shared interests, particularly as the country undergoes a critical phase of security stabilisation and economic recovery.

Ambassador Wang reaffirmed China’s commitment to maintaining and expanding its friendly relations with Somalia, pledging continued support for the federal government, especially in the areas of security, investment and economic development.

The Somali prime minister thanked China for what he described as its steadfast support for Somalia, including backing the country’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and praised Beijing’s role in infrastructure reconstruction and humanitarian assistance.
