Somali Police Issued Statement on Explosions in Mogadishu’s Daarusalaam

MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Somali Police Force has issued a statement addressing explosions that occurred last night in the Daarusalaam district, followed by heavy gunfire. The attacks were reportedly carried out by the militant group Al-Shabaab, who used decoy explosive devices in an attempt to instill fear among the public.

 

According to the police, the explosions targeted a commercial center in Daarusalaam. However, the devices were confirmed to be non-lethal and caused no casualties or property damage.

The statement from the Somali Police read as follows:

“The Somali Police Force would like to reassure the Somali public and the media that there is no security threat in the capital, Mogadishu.

The group attempted to create panic by planting fake explosive devices at a business center in the Daarusalaam district. These devices were confirmed to be decoys and posed no real danger.

There were no casualties or damages as a result of this incident. Police forces responded swiftly, taking the necessary measures to secure the area and restore public confidence.

The Somali Police Force urges citizens to collaborate with security forces to maintain peace and to remain vigilant against false information aimed at creating public unrest.”

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Mogadishu’s residents while calling on the public to support their efforts in combating extremism and misinformation.
