Somali Police Forces Report Devastating Toll in Lido Beach Attack

MOGADISHU, Somalia – In a somber press briefing, Somali Police spokesman Abdifitah Adan Hassan confirmed the grim aftermath of a brutal attack that unfolded on Lido beach in Mogadishu last night.

 

The assault, which began with explosions, has left the nation reeling as the death toll climbs to over 32, with an additional 63 individuals suffering injuries.

According to Hassan, the scene at the beach was chaotic as security forces engaged with the attackers. Three assailants were neutralized within a hotel, while another chose a horrifying end by detonating explosives on the beach.

The violence also claimed the life of one soldier and injured another.

In a small victory amidst the tragedy, police managed to intercept and destroy a car laden with explosives, apprehending the injured driver.

This incident underscores the ongoing security challenges in the region, as Somali authorities continue to grapple with threats from extremist groups.

The international community has expressed solidarity with Somalia, condemning the attack and offering support in the aftermath.
