MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Somali police issued a statement regarding a suicide bombing last night at the Blue Sky Restaurant in Mogadishu on Monday night.
The Police said that the suicide bombing killed only one person, the director of the Mogadishu office of Somali Cable Television, Abdifitah Qays, while four others were injured.
The bomber blew himself up at the restaurant near the presidential palace around 21:00 PM in the evening as people were drinking tea outside the Restaurant in Bondhere District.
The body of Qayswas laid to rest in Mogadishu with friends, families, and officials attending the funeral. The journalist’s death sent a shocking wave through the media fraternity.
Last night’s suicide bombing in Mogadishu comes amid tightened security with police erecting checkpoints across the city to prevent explosions by the Al-Shabaab group.
Until now, there was no claim of responsibility for the overnight attack which sends a message to the government that security in the city face a threat from Al-Shabaab.
