ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in the Ethiopian capital on Friday to a warm reception ahead of the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union Summit.
Leading a high-level delegation, Mohamud joins fellow African heads of state for the annual gathering in Addis Ababa city.
According to officials, the president intends to use the summit to bolster diplomatic efforts centered on defending Somalia’s national unity and territorial integrity.
The visit comes at a critical time for Mogadishu as it seeks to strengthen regional partnerships and navigate ongoing security and political challenges within the Horn of Africa.
