ADDIS ABABA – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Addis Ababa on Saturday to attend the second United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS+4), co-hosted by Ethiopia and Italy from July 27 to 29.

Upon arrival at Bole International Airport, President Mohamud was received by Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh and State Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Berhanu Tsegaye.

“On behalf of the Government of Ethiopia, I warmly welcome President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to Ethiopia — a symbol of African unity — as he joins us for the 2nd UN Food Systems Summit,” Temesgen said in a statement following the reception.

The participation of the Somali leader highlights a shared regional commitment to transforming food systems amid growing global challenges, including climate change, hunger, and malnutrition.

Leaders from across the globe — including heads of state and government, ministers, scientists, farmers, youth representatives, and development partners — are gathering in the Ethiopian capital to assess progress since the inaugural 2021 summit and to enhance cooperation for building sustainable, inclusive, and resilient food systems.
