DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania β Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud attended a crucial summit on Friday aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The summit, held in Dar es Salaam, was a joint initiative of the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
The meeting focused on strategies to alleviate the humanitarian crisis and restore stability in eastern DRC. In his address, President Mohamud stressed the importance of regional cooperation for peace, noting Somalia’s role within the United Nations Security Council.
βThe conflict in eastern DRC is a humanitarian disaster, and it demands urgent action to ensure lasting peace,β Mohamud stated. He advocated for dialogue over military action, highlighting the need for a collaborative approach between the EAC and SADC to de-escalate tensions.
Mohamud also pledged Somalia’s support for peace initiatives, drawing on the nation’s own experiences in peacebuilding and reconciliation to offer assistance in fostering stability in the DRC.
The summit underscored the commitment of African nations to resolve internal conflicts through unity and diplomatic means.
