MOGADISHU – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud officially closed the annual National Quranic Competition for the holy month of Ramadan on Friday, presenting cash prizes to students who secured the top positions.
During the ceremony in the capital, the President extended his congratulations to all participants, particularly the winners, describing the young scholars as the “backbone of the country’s future.” He commended their dedication to the study, memorization, and propagation of the Holy Quran.
Addressing the audience, President Mohamud highlighted the role of the Somali religious community in national governance. He noted that the Federal Government has ensured a prominent role for Islamic scholars in the country’s constitutional review process.
This involvement, he stated, was crucial to guarantee that the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia remains fully aligned with Islamic Sharia—the foundation of the nation’s legal and state systems.
The President concluded the event by personally handing out cash awards to the successful huffaz (memorizers). He also praised the parents and teachers for their roles in nurturing the winners, praying that their knowledge serves both the faith and the future of the Somali people.
