MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somali President Hassan Sheikh chaired a meeting with the leaders of South West State, Hirshabelle, and Galmudug regions, marking the beginning of efforts to unify the Somali people in the fight against the militant group Al-Shabaab.
The meeting focused on updates regarding the country’s overall situation and ongoing operations. President Mohamud commended the regional leaders for their leadership role in organizing and coordinating the fight against Al-Shabaab.
During the meeting, the leaders discussed the importance of preparing for the upcoming national conference, called by President Mohamud. The conference aims to foster unity and focus the country’s efforts on defeating Al-Shabaab, with the belief that success in this battle will mark the start of a national victory.
President Mohamud acknowledged the significant victories in the fight against terrorism, attributing them to the unwavering support of the Somali people and the bravery of both national and local forces. He emphasized the importance of strengthening national unity to effectively combat Al-Shabaab.
The President and regional leaders agreed to proceed with operations based on collective effort, drawing on the guidance and support of intellectuals, political leaders, and the broader community.
